BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Papa Luna Kuhikuhi
Pat Lindquist - President
Pat founded the Napili Bay and Beach Foundation in late 2006, when changes to the shape of the beach and clarity of bay waters was becoming a concern to community leaders up and down the bay. Why Napili? Beginning in 1972, this is the beach and bay that had become the ‘island home’ for her parents, siblings, children and grandchildren. Why offer her help? A Master’s degree in cell and molecular biology combined with a career in academic and biotech labs; and capped with years of project planning and management experience made the mission of protecting and improving the health of Napili bay and beach a happy fit.

He has many fond memories of playing on the beach as a kid and later with his own kids, and has watched with utter dismay over the years as his beloved Napili beach has continually eroded into the sea, and is very motivated to restore the beach. Terry retired from the Army as a Major in September 2006 after serving 20 years, and he has a Master’s Degree from National University. He has attended numerous leadership and management courses both inside and outside the military. He has Project Management Professional certification and works as a Program Manager and Director of Talent Acquisition.

Ian Horswill - Coastal Engineer
Ian Horswill is President of Rising Tide Engineering, Inc. established in 2015, in Paia, Maui. The company specializes in beach restoration projects, particularly for the environmentally challenging Hawaiian coastal waters. In 2017, in response to NBBF’s RFP for work needed to do a Small Scale Beach
Restoration project for Napili, Rising Tide was awarded the contract. Since that time, Rising Tide Engineering has conducted necessary offshore sand quantification and qualification, beach profile studies in different seasons of the year, benthic habitat survey and documentation, set up and evaluation of live camera monitoring data for purposes of understanding beach mechanisms. In the past year, efforts have been focused on the plans and permit applications needed to make Napili beach ‘shovel ready’ for beach restoration, ideally in 2022. |
Dana Reed - Environmental Quality Consultant
Dana, a retired Electrical Engineer, got involved with Napili Bay and Beach Foundation in 2012, when she attended a Water Quality training session at the beach and at Maui Preparatory Academy in Napili. She took to the subject so well, that she soon assumed the job of training the Maui Prep science students how to sample water for turbidity, pH, temperature and salinity using the one pH meter Napili Bay and Beach Foundation had purchased. She saw a big need to help gather WQ samples from coastal waters as there was one County employee who was responsible for all sampling on the three islands in Maui County. By, 2016, with a lot of work and interface with Hawaii’s Department of Health, a full-fledged volunteer water sampling program was launched, which is ongoing today. Dana joined Napili Bay and Beach Foundation as a Director in 2014 and has transitioned to Technical Consultant since moving to the East Coast in late 2018.
